Our Story

HV-3D Microphone Preamplifier
Technology Hall of Fame (2019)

Founded in 1990, you have been listening to Millennia Music & Media Systems technology for much of your life. With over 50,000 recording channels in-use, Millennia is the leading microphone preamplifier for Hollywood film scores (1,000+), classical music recordings (10,000+), acoustic jazz, Foley, and ADR. If you listened to music today, or watched a movie, chances are you heard a Millennia recording (Juilliard 48ch, Andrea Bocelli 40ch, Eastman 192ch, Carnagie Hall 24ch, Los Angeles Opera 32ch, Lincoln Center 96ch, Berlin Phil 16ch, M. Tabernacle 192ch, etc.)

Millennia began as a classical music production company. Using our in-house-designed recording equipment, we produced over 600 symphonic, chamber, and solo recital recordings mostly in Northern Califonia. Word spread about our gear designs and recording engineers worldwide were asking us to build HV-3’s micamps for them. That was 35 years ago.

Our design philosophy has never varied. We continue to apply the most rigorous practices to audio design and manufacturing. If a Millennia circuit (preamp, EQ, dynamics, etc.) isn’t the most accurate, neutral, dynamically-stable instrument of its type, we continue working until it is. It’s no surprise that pre-owned Millennia products demand among the highest resale value in pro audio today.

Three Decades of Audio Excellence

With over 30 industry awards and thousands of global pro-industry clients, Millennia continues to set precedent in dynamically stable, timbre-neutral audio paths: from microphone capture to consumer delivery; from iconic symphony halls to the Library of Congress; in the world’s great recording studios and mastering rooms to film scoring stages from Hollywood to Mumbai. Millennia is the recognized standard for professional excellence, delivering unmatched performance irrespective of price.

LOC – archiving phono preamp
Library of Congress

The LOCi phono preamplifier (photo) was designed under contract specification for the U.S. Library of Congress, who use LOCi preamps in every archiving room at the U.S. Audio Archives in Culpeper VA. We believe the LOCi to be the most sonically accurate phono path available today, at any price. The LOCi is now used in many of the world’s top archiving and listening labs, including the national libraries of Canada, France, Italy, and India.

STT-1 Recording Channel

The STT-1 Origin Recording Channel is a collection of Millennia’s essential design elements, in one studio-friendly box. It’s a “Twin Topology” architecture, meaning the recording engineer can select either 300V vacuum tubes or 50V discrete pure Class-A JFET signal paths at each audio function (micamp, EQ, limiter, etc.), delivering a virtually unlimited tonal pallet, from stark acoustic realism to rich euphonic coloration, and all sonic flavors in-between.

The D-1 DAC

Welcome to your future. The D-1 DAC delivers 28-bits of real dynamic range. Today’s legacy single-path DACs rarely claim anything over 21-bits. But that’s misleading. Single-path DACs have dreadful waveform distortion at low perceptual signal levels, hence deliver far less than 21-bits of measurably clean information.
They said it couldn’t be done. We did it. Multi-path is the new frontier of audio technology. There is no going back.
